Editor’s note: With several sports going on, Wildcat Wrap serves as a recap that focuses on the Arizona programs that we do not have the time to cover on a regular basis but are certainly worthy of recognition.
Arizona swimming and diving put together a strong showing in a home meet versus USC last Friday, with the men defeating the Trojans 182-118.
Arizona swept the 50 yard free and the 100 yard free. Jake Hutchinson won the 50 yard free with a time of 19.62, and Tomas Lukminas won the 100 yard free with a time of 42.49.
Freshman Duncan Henderson posted three personal-best times against the Trojans, including winning the 100 back with a time of 45.92 and placing second in the 200 back with a time of 1:43.94. Henderson won Big 12 Newcomer of the Week.
Diver Gage DuBois won Big 12 Diver of the Week after a pair of second-place finishes against USC in the 1-meter and the 3-meter.
The Wildcats women fell to USC 189-109. They were led Zara Ayazi on the boards, who swept the 1-meter and 3-meter. Julia Wozniak won the 50 yard free with a time of 22.15, and Eleni Gewalt won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:00.15.
Both Arizona squads are nationally ranked, with the men coming in at No. 18 and the women at No. 23. This is the first time both programs have been ranked under coach Ben Loorz.
Arizona’s divers will compete at the Texas Diving Invitational from Nov. 13-15.
Triathlon
Fresh off their second consecutive national championship, the Arizona triathlon program announced the signing of Rylan Lonergan. Lonergan, out of Dallas, Texas, will join Arizona in the fall of 2026.
“Rylan brings an energy and love for the sport which we prioritize in our recruitment process,” Arizona coach Wes Johnson said. “She finished the 2025 junior season as the top-ranked US junior athlete after an incredible 2025 Junior Nationals race. We look forward to having her as a future leader on our team!”
Arizona is expected to return most if not all of its 2025 roster.
Men’s golf
Arizona announced the signings of three men’s golf players for the class of 2026.
Joseph Nelson out of Hamilton High School in Gilbert, Arizona is joined in the class by Hogan O’Malley of Corona Del School High School in Tempe, and Adam Fahey out of Ireland.
Nelson was the 2024 Arizona Division 1 High School Individual State Champion. He also won the 2025 Southwest PGA Junior Championship.
O’Malley was a 2025 AJGA Champion.
Fahey was winner of Irish Boys under 13 ,14, 15, and 16 titles (2021, 22, 23, 24). He finished 7th at the European Young Masters 2024.
Cross country
Arizona cross country will compete at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento on Friday. The women’s 6k will take place at 10 a.m. MST, followed by the men’s 10k at 11 a.m. MST.
“This meet serves as a culmination of a good first fall,” associate head coach Jay Koloseus said. “We hope to continue to place better than last year and better than we are expected to here in Sacramento. With such a young team, I hope we can continue to turn heads and possibly get an athlete or two in the All-West Regional selection.”
The top two teams on both the men’s and women’s sides will automatically qualify for the 2025 NCAA Cross Country Championships. An additional 13 teams nationwide will earn at-large bids. Individuals may also secure championship berths by placing in the top 25 overall and finishing among the top four athletes not on an advancing team.
