Immediately following his world heavyweight championship match against a game LA Knight to open Money in the Bank in New Orleans, Roman Reigns was asked about what’s next for him. He said a whole lot without saying much at all:
“At this point in time, the main thing is just recovery. Try to get back to a place of health where I feel good because, like you said, I got the whole world coming after me. Everybody wants what I have. This is the position. This is the burden. This is where you want to be.
You want to be center stage, you want to be the one that holds the spotlight. Can’t you feel that? Can’t you feel the envy and the jealousy that just seeps back here? Everybody wants (the world heavyweight championship). And before, not too long ago, this was second prize, this was second fiddle. Now it’s the number one most coveted prize in the game because The Tribal Chief made it that way. But this is what it is. This is the position, and this is what I was born for. Always ready.”
He was asked more directly about The 946 and his Bloodline family needing help. He danced around that by saying family is most important but right now the title is number one. That’s interesting if only because Survivor Series and War Games is right around the corner. At some point, he’s going to need to get involved in that.
Then again, Crown Jewel (assuming it happens, and it definitely shouldn’t) is next on the schedule, and he’s booked for the show. He’s going to need an opponent for that.
He put over LA Knight at the end here, but after all the talk of this being his last shot, they can’t go back to that again for a while. Or you wouldn’t think.
Oba Femi called Reigns out once again on the post show. Femi defeated Bronson Reed and has been on one hell of a hot run but this one has been simmering for some time and is the kind of match you hold onto until WrestleMania.
Penta is the Money in the Bank contract holder but that’s almost certainly not going to end up a scheduled match. He’ll just be looming large for the next however long he decides to hold onto that briefcase.
So what’s actually next?
He’s not scheduled for Monday Night Raw next week, and the Street Fighter movie premiere is coming up next weekend. For now, we’ll have to make due with what little we got here.
Recovery it is.
