The Los Angeles Rams waived Mario Williams on Tuesday, a former undrafted receiver who had made a little bit of noise in camp but suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s preseason game on Saturday. In a corresponding move at the same position, the Rams added Alex Bachman, who has bounced around the league but was most recently with the Las Vegas Raiders.
Bachman started his career with the Rams in 2019 as an undrafted free agent, so he has traits that L.A. and other teams have liked enough for him
to stick around the NFL for seven years despite only having five career catches.
For Williams, he may get the chance to work with another team, or like Bachman, wind up back with the Rams some day.
There’s two preseason games left for teams to figure out their final roster and for players around the league to show they belong on a team now, or should be on a short list if someone gets hurt and a team needs a body.
Bachman is such a late addition to the Rams’ roster that he is unlikely to make a case for the 53, but not too late to hang onto the practice squad and see what happens. It’s a long 17-game season. At worst, Bachman could be on the field for the Saints preseason game this week.
Rams sign WR Alex Bachman, waive injured WR Mario Williams (ramswire)
“The Los Angeles Rams shuffled their wide receiver room this week. The team announced it signed Alex Bachman while waiving Mario Williams with an injury designation.
Bachman, 26, returns to the organization that gave him his first NFL opportunity. The Rams originally signed him as an undrafted free agent out of Wake Forest in 2019, where he posted 82 catches for 1,162 yards and 10 touchdowns over 32 games and ran a sub-4.5 40-yard dash for the Demon Deacons.
He was waived that summer and has since bounced around the league, spending time with the Giants, Texans and, most recently, the Raiders. Bachman has carved out a niche as a special-teamer and depth receiver, appearing in games with all three of those clubs and making his first career start in 2024 — fittingly, against the Rams.“
Los Angeles Rams Acquire New WR With Explosive Traits (viralsportsnews.net)
“The signing comes as the Rams manage injuries in the receiver room. Star Puka Nacua has been dealing with psoas soreness and remains day-to-day, sitting out recent practices as the team takes a cautious approach.
Bachman provides a veteran body who knows the building and can contribute immediately on special teams while competing for offensive snaps.
A Southern California product coming home, Bachman will have an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster given the Rams’ depth.
Yet his speed, agility, and precise route-running give him a chance to stick as a depth piece and return specialist.“
2026 NFL defensive line rankings: Rams lead the league, Steelers and Texans open in top three (pff.com)
“Rams claim the top spot: Los Angeles added Myles Garrett to a defensive line that ranked second in PFF grade last season, pairing him with Byron Young and Kobie Turner.
Texans boast an elite edge duo: Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter were the only pair of teammates to earn PFF pass-rush grades above 90.0 last season.
Falcons rank 32nd amid key absences: James Pearce Jr. is suspended for the first eight games, while Jalon Walker will miss the season after suffering a torn ACL.“
Rams 24-Sack Defender Tabbed Potential Breakout Candidate (sports.yahoo)
“Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus called Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner as the team’s breakout candidate ahead of the 2026 season.
“Kobie Turner is set to hit free agency after the season, and if the first three years of his career are any indication, he’s about to earn a massive payday,” McGuinness wrote. “He has earned PFF pass-rush grades above 80.0 in two of his first three seasons while generating 181 pressures, including 50 sacks and quarterback hits, on 1,654 pass-rushing snaps.”
Stetson Bennett under pressure to hold No. 2 spot in L.A. Rams QB rotation (dawgnation)
“McVay was asked on Monday if he will start Bennett in the 1 p.m. preseason game on Saturday against New Orleans and manage the QB rotation as he did against Kansas City, with Bennett seeing the first two series before ceding the offense to Simpson.
“I think that will be predicated on how the (joint) practice against New Orleans goes (on Thursday), and how (Tuesday) practice goes,” McVay said on Monday. “I think what’s been helpful for us is really just taking it a day at a time.
“I have not made that decision yet and genuinely that is the truth,” McVay said, “and a large part of that decision will be predicated on what happens on Tuesday and a lot of it, and especially, with what happens on Thursday.”

Rams are undecided on what to do with Stetson Bennett next (dawnofthedog)
“A large part of that decision will be predicated on what happens on Tuesday, and then a lot of it, especially with what happens on Thursday,” Rams head coach Sean McVay said after Monday’s practice via therams.com.
LA Rams aren’t sure if Stetson Bennett will play alongside Ty Simpson in their next preseason game
First round draft pick Ty Simpson will play in every preseason game this year, but the same can’t be said for Bennett.“
Rams insider predicts who the team’s WR3 will be in 2026 (ramswire)
“The competition includes Konata Mumpfield, Jordan Whittington and Xavier Smith, with sixth-round rookie CJ Daniels also in the mix. None of the group has separated itself statistically.
Mumpfield, a seventh-round pick in 2025, finished his rookie season with 10 receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown across 17 games. Whittington posted 18 catches for 171 yards and no touchdowns in his second season, a step back from the 293 receiving yards he put up as a rookie in 2024. Smith caught 24 passes for 303 yards and doubled as the Rams’ primary punt returner, logging 251 punt return yards last season. Daniels, while turning heads this offseason, is still just a rookie.“
4,100-Yard All-Pro Gets Unfortunate Words Amid Update on Potential Rams Deal (sports.yahoo)
“While Nacua’s situation has been the most publicized, the Rams have 10 starters among a slew of players set for free agency in 2027.
That just further clouds the Rams’ long-term outlook, though it is a good problem to have.
“It’s not just Puka Nacua. It’s several other players on the defensive line as well; two big contract extensions. Could potentially be working out some deals. They really have opted not to,” Rapoport said.“
What to Know Before the Saints Take on the Rams Saturday (107jamz)
“One of the biggest storylines heading into Saturday will be the expected preseason debut of quarterback Tyler Shough. The rookie did not take the field against Jacksonville, as New Orleans rotated its other quarterbacks, including Zach Wilson, Hunter Dekkers and Spencer Rattler.
Rattler, who is competing for a place on the Saints’ roster, received playing time in the opener. The coaching staff will continue to evaluate the quarterback room as the preseason progresses.“
Comment of the Day:
Ty Simpson may be the future, but is he ready now?
“I know Simpson appears to be slated for 3rd-string, but if Stafford actually gets hurt–and he’s a mature player coming off a back injury–I would wager Simpson would start the next week. So he might play a very important role this year.
Very good chance I’m over-emphasizing an August game against scrubs, which really shouldn’t mean much, but Simpson looked decisive and ready to play and there’s not a lot of reasons to be confident with Bennett.“ –glen55
