Girona FC and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the loan of Marc-André ter Stegen, who will defend the red-and-white goal until the end of the season.
Born on April 30, 1992 in the German city of Mönchengladbach, Ter Stegen is a goalkeeper who trained in the lower categories of Borussia Mönchengladbach, a club with which he made his debut in the Bundesliga
at the age of just eighteen. He soon established himself as one of the goalkeepers with the most projection in German football thanks to his competitive maturity and regularity in his performance. His constant growth led him, in 2014, to sign for FC Barcelona, where he has developed most of his professional career.
During his time with the Blaugrana team, Ter Stegen has played 423 official matches and has been the protagonist in numerous collective successes, both in national and international competitions. The new red-and-white player has won, among others, a Champions League, six League championships, six Copas del Rey, a European Super Cup and a Club World Cup. His performance has repeatedly placed him among the most valued goalkeepers in world football and has consolidated him as an absolute international with the German national team.
In terms of his technical characteristics, Ter Stegen is considered a modern, complete goalkeeper with a great capacity to adapt to different playing styles. He stands out for his excellent footwork, a fundamental aspect for teams that want to start the action from behind, as well as for his quick reflexes and security in short-distance situations. Added to this is good positioning within the area, reliability in the aerial game and a remarkable tactical reading, which allows him to anticipate the opponent’s offensive actions. His personality and leadership are also an added value, as he contributes to order and give confidence to the defensive line.
For his part, Ter Stegen posted a goodbye message to FC Barcelona fans on X:
Today is my last day this season with my teammates and the staff at FC Barcelona, and I truly have mixed feelings.
So many memories and emotions are running through me right now. For nearly 12 years, this club, and especially this locker room, has been my home. A place where I’ve grown as a player and as a person, and where I’ve lived unforgettable moments.
I feel deeply grateful and proud. I love this club, this city and this region. They carry a feeling inside me that will never fade. Your support over all these years has been incredible, thank you from my heart.
To the locker room: thank you for so many years shared, for the daily life together, the laughs, the battles and the respect. I carry you with me.
I’ve had the immense honor of wearing the captain’s armband, something I will carry with me forever. Now my journey continues in Catalunya, and I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead. I wish you all the best for the rest of the season and hope to see many more trophies lifted.
See you soon. 💙❤️
Ter Stegen’s move should present him the opportunity to prove himself for the German national team and a potential berth on the squad for the 2026 World Cup.
