Well, this report from Sport1 journalist Stefan Kumberger (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), it not going to improve how most Bayern Munich fans feel about the agents for Dayot Upamecano.
Right up until the
last minute before Bayern Munich yanked its offer from the negotiating table, the agents were pushing for different terms than what the Bavarians had proposed. As previously reported, it was Dayot Upamecano who then inserted himself to save the relationship:
Even on the last day of the deadline that the club set for Dayot Upamecano, the player’s representatives presented new conditions, which angered the club’s bosses. Ultimately, it was Upamecano himself who took responsibility and gave his “yes” to the club. Upamecano had stayed out of the negotiations for weeks, but then became involved at the crucial moment. This was highly appreciated at Säbener Straße and confirmed the impression that he’s happy in Munich and his priority has always been to stay.
BFW Analysis
This is just what agents do — sometimes even when it is not in the overall best interest of their clients. It was great for Upamecano to re-assert control and remind his representative exactly who works for who, but this needed to hit a breaking point before the defender took back control of his future.
The saga had gone on for far too long and if there is any criticism to be levied at Bayern Munich after that ordeal, it might be that they waited way too long to pull the offer. However, this contract will not be able to be fully judged until everyone sees the terms, which were the most publicly criticized part of this experience.
