Another domino has fallen for the Green Bay Packers within the first hour or so of free agent negotiations, and this one may well set the bar for how high the Packers can go with bringing in an outside free agent of their own. Defensive end Kingsley Enagbare has agreed to terms on a contract with the New York Jets on Monday afternoon, with ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler saying the deal is worth $10 million for a one-year contract.
This is a nice one-year payday for Enagbare, who played a valuable rotational
role for the Packers over four seasons. A fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, Enagbare has played in every possible game since his drafting, recording 11.5 sacks for his career with three forced fumbles.
Enagbare is widely expected to be the fifth-highest paid departing Green Bay Packers free agent this offseason, which makes the value of his contract particularly notable. The Packers can collect a maximum of four compensatory draft picks based on departures this season, which will likely come as the result of losing Malik Willis, Rasheed Walker, Quay Walker, and Romeo Doubs. As a result, the Packers can sign an outside free agent to an annual contract up to $10 million and cancel out only Enagbare’s departing deal, leaving them eligible to add the four picks for the other four big names.
Enagbare should have a decent pathway to playing time with the Jets in 2026. New York recently agreed to trade edge rusher Jermaine Johnson to the Tennessee Titans for nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat, leaving one potential starting EDGE job open. By signing a one-year deal, Enagbare and his agents are likely betting on him having a breakout season as a full-time starter with the hope of him cashing in with an even bigger payday this time next year.
