Every year we get excited about the upcoming Dallas Cowboys season because things feel limitless. That is classic fan behavior, and despite our better judgment, we tend to drink from that well on an annual basis. Dreaming about the ceiling is more fun than anything else because just imagine if it all happens!
In reality, the more important aspect of a given team is their floor. The higher the floor, the higher the average landing spot for the team. If the floor is high then the pressure to reach the ceiling
is lower, ironically.
So with all of that being said, here are the three players on the Cowboys with the highest floor for this season.
Dak Prescott
You would hope that your quarterback is on this list. Thankfully for the Cowboys, Dak Prescott is.
We have come to be able to set our watches by Dak Prescott’s play. His decade of lining up for the team has proven that the floor is indeed always high with him. Outside of the years where the Cowboys saw him deal with significant injuries, they have never bottomed out with him.
Prescott is often the subject of all sorts of criticism, but he is more than capable of putting the team in the proper position. He needs to do his part when they get there, but he is one of the primary engines driving the proverbial ship.
CeeDee Lamb
It is hard to be as consistent and dependable as CeeDee Lamb.
Consider that last year Lamb, in 13 games, went for over a thousand yards. He only had three touchdowns on the year, but he had the highest yards/reception of his career at 14.4 in what is considered a down year for his standards.
CeeDee Lamb is going to provide elite production from your WR1 which is the literal definition of a high floor commodity. It is a wonderful thing to have him on this team.
Quinnen Williams
You could go with Tyler Smith here, and he has one of the highest floors, but it just felt right to include Quinnen Williams. He feels so overlooked amid all of the changes this team has undergone.
For the first time, um, in this century maybe… the Cowboys have one of their most reliable and dependable players lining up at defensive tackle. Think about how cool this is!
Williams has all of the pedigree in the world and the team paid dearly to have it be a part of their operation. It feels fair to expect that to really show itself over his first full season with Dallas.
