In a winter NCAA transfer portal window during which some notable players are opting for stability instead of transition, the Texas Longhorns missed out another top target when offensive lineman Jake Gaurnera
revealed his return to the Michigan Wolverines on Tuesday.
Guarnera entered the portal when it opened and reportedly took a visit to Texas, but the hire of Kyle Whittingham and the opportunity to remain at Michigan proved too much for the Longhorns to overcome.
Texas is also in pursuit of Michigan transfer offensive tackle Andrew Sprague, another weekend visitor on the Forty Acres and a Kansas City product who is receiving interest from Missouri, a top contender for his services.
The decision by Guarnera could heighten Texas’ pursuit of Wyoming transfer Wesley King, the third offensive lineman the Horns hosted over the weekend, but a player who didn’t profile as a take with Guarnera still on the board.
