On Tuesday the Rockies dropped a home game to the Giants, giving them their 100th loss of the season. Though the Rockies have never won a division title in their 33 seasons as a franchise — their postseason appearances in 1995, 2007, 2017, and 2018 came as a wild card team — one point of pride used to be that they had never lost 100 games in a season.
That distinction went away in 2023 with a 103-loss season, followed up by 101 more losses in 2024. This year, with three weeks left in the season, the Rockies
are on pace for 117 losses. Since the start of 2023, the Rockies have the worst record in the National League (160-307, .343) and depending on how the rest of this season goes Colorado could catch the White Sox (157-311, .335) for the worst record in the majors during that time.
Unless the Rockies outscore their opponents by a bunch the rest of the way, they will own the worst run differential in modern major league history. The previous mark, since 1901, was held by the 1932 Red Sox, outscored by 349 runs in their 154-game season. Colorado this year reached minus-349 on August 29, in their 135th game.
The Rockies are at minus-370 with 19 games remaining on the schedule.
