Free agency continues in the NFL today. At 4:00 pm Eastern the new league year officially begins. That is the point where new contracts for free agents changing teams can be signed and filed with the league office. Many verbal deals were already struck during the negotiation phases of the legal tampering period. Now thye will become official.
The Jets made headlines yesterday by trading for quarterback Geno Smith. It is a homecoming for Smith who was the team’s second round pick in 2013. His first
stint with the Jets went about as poorly as one could imagine. Geno bounced around the league before finding a home with Seattle. Smith settled in as the starting quarterback after the Russell Wilson trade and played quality football for a couple of years. Then came a trade to the Raiders a year ago which did not work out for anybody. The Jets now turn to Geno hoping to see a bounceback and to receive decent quarterback play.
Who will be part of his supporting cast? The Jets still have some work to do building their team. We will see who they add today as free agency continues.
This post will be updated as the Jets make moves.
