The University of Kentucky is still on the search for a new athletic director as Mitch Barnhart is in his final month at the helm. The search has been pretty quiet, but UK is expected to announce a hire by the end of the month.
The last update we received was on May 21st, when the school announced Barnhart’s replacement would carry the titles of athletic director and CEO of Champions Blue LLC, but other than that, it’s been a relatively quiet search for the school.
The Wildcats have had a plethora
of candidates on the board, but it seems they’ll go with an external hire once they make a decision.
“It would be a major surprise if Deputy AD, Marc Hill, or any other current Barnhart lieutenant were promoted to the job,” Jon Hale said in a recent article for the Kentucky Herald Leader.
The program is looking to hire someone who “is an experienced athletic director and people with varied backgrounds in pro sports and business,” UK president Eli Capilouto said in the updated job description.
The Wildcats have been honing in on someone who may have a strong background on the business side of things, someone who could generate revenue for the program.
The program is using a search firm to find a candidate nationwide. They will pay DSG Global a total of $30,000 to complete the nationwide hunt.
Kentucky hasn’t revealed many specifics about the hire. When they do have a new athletics director, it seems it’ll include more than just a title change.
Be sure to read Hale’s full report for more insight into the AD search.
