The Huskers lead Indiana at halftime 10-3, and while no one is complaining, there’s definitely a feeling the lead could be higher.
But first the good stuff – the Huskers came to play today and aren’t backing down from the Hoosiers. One bit.
They rolled up the field on their first drive for 66 yards and converted a 27 yard field goal for a 3-0 lead. The Blackshirts have been solid only giving up 115 yards, but 80 of those were surrendered on two pass completions, the first of which set up Indiana’s
tying score
The Huskers netted 75 yards on the second possession with Nyziah Hunter running it from 10 yards out for the 10-3 lead and halftime score.
The physicality was embodied by freshman Jamal Rule who sent a defender flying on an attempted tackle. On the next play, Indiana returned the favor blasting Rule, but that’s the kind of team they are and Rule popped right up. Let’s get it on, right?
The Big 10 refs must have been miffed by being called out for last week’s confetti cannon laundry show vs Maryland, because they decided to keep them holstered on two brutal no-calls in the first half.
First, it was an obvious late hit with a defender escaping justice for jumping on Anthony Colandrea’s back after he recovered a fumble for a -16 loss. Auto first down? Nope. The zebras were struck by group blindness and the Huskers were forced into their only punt – a 60 yarder by Archie Wilson, well done, sir.
Then another Hoosier defender ran blindly into Luke Lindenmeyer before Colandrea’s pass hit him in the back at the Indiana 7 on a late Husker drive. 1st and goal at the 7? Nope, the blindness again afflicted the latest of these corrupt crews, but thoughts and prayers on a quick recovery. 🙈
Colandrea then got a pass to wide open Kwazi Gilmer, but pulled him out of bounds. And then Cunanan missed a 40yd field goal – ugh.
2nd half coming up – fill those glasses and dig in.
