Paul George is still suspended. Joel Embiid is still recovering from a right oblique strain. Now, Tyrese Maxey is dealing with a sprain in his right pinky — the same pinky which he sprained last season and ended his 2024-25 campaign — and will miss the next two games at least. Rookie VJ Edgecombe is questionable Monday with a lumbar contusion, but has missed the past two games.
The Sixers are 34-29, good for eighth in the East. They sit a full game back of both the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat, and 1.5
games up on the Atlanta Hawks, a team they finished 0-4 against this season. They take on the Cleveland Cavaliers Monday on the road, then play Tuesday at home against the Memphis Grizzlies before heading to Detroit to take on the East-leading Pistons.
Things are … looking bleak.
As a reminder, the Sixers’ 2026 first-round pick is top-four protected and likely destined for the Oklahoma City Thunder, making tanking efforts fruitless at this juncture. So, now what? We’ll see if Maxey and/or Embiid can make it back into the lineup later this week, but these next couple games figure to be rough.
