Joan Laporta has responded to Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong’s complaints about the decision to play December’s La Liga fixture against Villarreal in Miami.
De Jong has said “it’s unfair” to play
the game in the United States and made it clear he “does not agree” with the decision to move the game overseas.
Laporta says that De Jong will have to do as he’s told as La Liga want Barca to play in Miami.
“He is the captain of Barça and I can respect his opinion, but the club will play where La Liga says,” he said via Cope.
“If the Villarreal-Barça match is to be played in Miami, then we will go to Miami.”
De Jong is the first Barca star to give his opinion after it was confirmed the game would move. However, Marc-Andre ter Stegen previously made his opposition to the plan clear over the summer.
The game now looks certain to go ahead in Miami on December 20th, although it remains to be seen whether any other matches are moved abroad in the future.
