German football analyst Dr. Constantin Eckner has been watching Bayern Munich closely this season and does not think that the squad has many weaknesses.
“They were up against Schalke with a tremendous defensive setup, back five, and very clever in terms of how they move defensively and they shut Bayern more or less down. Bayern had a few shots on target in game, but didn’t score any goals. They even had some trouble against Elversberg, because Elversberg, which is one of the fairytales of European
football right now, with a very small community got to the Bundesliga in record time, and they even scored the equaliser,” Eckner told CasinoGuru. “But you saw in the Elversberg game that Bayern still can shift into the third, fourth and fifth gear if needed, and even though their start wasn’t as exciting as their start last year, I don’t see any issues.”
The one area of concern that Eckner could see is the lack of a backup for Luis Díaz at left wing.
“If there are any issues when it comes to Bayern, it might be the depth of the squad. There is no backup for Luis Díaz. Bayern will be happy that Díaz didn’t travel to the Colombia national team, so he can have a rest because he played so many games last season, and there isn’t really another left winger in Bayern’s squad,” Eckner stated. “They might have to use someone out of position, like Ismaël Saibari, their signing from PSV, who can play on the left wing, Nathaniel Brown can play left wing, or Alphonso Davies can play left winger, but there’s no natural left winger behind Luis Díaz.
“That’s why Bayern were interested in Anthony Gordon, which the transfer never happened, because he joined Barcelona. So, if there is something to be a little bit concerned about, it’s actually the depth for their squad. It’s one of the best teams in the world, and they will play for the Champions League title or will at least get into a semifinal, maybe final, and Dortmund had a great start, but Bayern are still clear favourite to win the Bundesliga once again.”
With Díaz now well-rested and the return of Serge Gnabry, that weak spot could turn back into a strength very quickly. That should bode well for the Bavarians and make life hard for their opponents.
