After the disappointing exit of the Germany national team’s exit of the 2026 World Cup, Bayern Munich captain and legend Manuel Neuer reflected on what was surely his last match of a remarkable international career.
Neuer notably came back from international retirement to help the German national team during the World Cup. The goalkeeper did not hide his disappointment as his team was eliminated by Paraguay in a penalty shootout during the Round of 32 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It’s extremely
bitter for it to end like this,” confessed the legendary goalkeeper.
The elimination brings Neuer’s remarkably successful international career to an end. Neuer debuted with the national team in 2009, captained the squad for several years, including the 2014 World Cup where he was crowned world champion, having played an essential role in the team’s championship. Furthermore, he became one, if not the greatest goalkeeper of all time, redefining the game and collecting a myriad of trophies with both club and country.
