Real recognize real, which is why Jon Jones is so impressed by how good Demetrious “Might Mouse” Johnson was and still is. In fact, Jones believes he’d have issues beating the UFC flyweight legend right
now.
If you are someone who started watching UFC during the pandemic then you may not be familiar with Johnson’s game. His name has surely popped up in discussions about the best fighters of all time, but unless you actually saw him fight and witnessed his dominant five-year UFC title reign from 2012-2017 then you can’t fully appreciate his greatness. Even after his departure from UFC in late-2018 Johnson went on to win five out of six fights under the ONE Championship banner, including two title fight victories.
Jones, who has had an even more prolific career than Johnson, understands just how good “Mighty Mouse” was. In fact, Jones believes the 39-year-old Johnson is still able to kick some serious ass, including his own. During a celebrity football game this week to help ring in Super Bowl LX Jones admitted that he’d have trouble beating Johnson right now. Despite his size advantage, Jones would have to give everything he had to fend off ”Mighty Mouse.“
Check it out below and let us know how close a fight between Jones and Johnson would actually be!
“I don’t want no smoke with that guy. He’s unbelievable,” said Jones of Johnson. “Believe it or not, I would have to give it my all to beat him right now. I really would, despite our size difference. That kid is always in the gym. He’s in shape. He’s one of the greatest mixed martial artists on the planet and he’s used to being the smaller guy.
“Fighting smaller guys can be difficult. They’re very fast and he’s very intelligent. I think ‘Mighty Mouse’ would beat 99.9% of the people at this event right now.”
