Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels has traveled around the country seeing specialists for how to best treat a left elbow dislocation that occurred at the end of the first half of a Week 2 loss at Dallas.
Daniels got back late on Thursday and the team was still sitting down to decide on the best course of action moving forward.
General manager Adam Peters didn’t have definitive answers about Daniels’ rehab process, but he did say that surgery is not on the table and that the team isn’t currently
discussing injured reserve with Daniels.
That should be considered a positive for the Commanders, creating a prospect that Daniels might not miss much time.
“He just got back late last night and the guys are meeting with him this morning,” Peters said Friday morning during his weekly appearance with the The Junkies on 106.7-FM The Fan in Washington. “We met with doctors all over the country and were really thorough. And we got a lot of good opinions. And now it’s a matter of thinking about what’s the best course of action.
“As of right now surgery is not on the table and we haven’t discussed (injured reserve). It’s just a matter of how we’re going to get him back on the field. That’s still to be determined.”
Peters said the Commanders will lean on medical personnel to makes final decisions about the best course of action. Not placing him on IR would suggest some confidence he can return faster than the four weeks he’d be out with that designation.
Washington’s GM hedged that first answer a little bit later in the interview, making sure his previous comments were related this moment.
“At this time,” Peters said. “I don’t want to make any proclamations, but those aren’t things we’ve discussed and landed on yet. He just got back. We haven’t even sat down and talked about what we’re doing moving forward.”
