John Cena’s WWE retirement match was the big attraction this past weekend at Saturday Night’s Main Event, of course, but several NXT stars were also showcased on the card. One of those wrestlers is Joe Hendry, who joined R-Truth in the ring for a comedy segment where they beat up The Miz.
The A-Lister wasn’t happy about being humiliated like that, so he confronted GM Nick Aldis on tonight’s (Dec. 19) episode of SmackDown. The Miz demanded a match next week on SmackDown against the man he didn’t want
to name, because you know what happens when you say his name. Aldis was very receptive to the idea, as long as NXT GM Ava is also on board. R-Truth then appeared behind The Miz and tried to say Joe’s name.
If the match is made official, which it very likely will be, then I don’t like The Miz’s chances to win. He’s just a lower card guy in WWE these days, whereas Hendry is a new star who is going places. And with SmackDown expanding to three hours in a couple of weeks, I wonder if Hendry will have a regular presence on the blue brand in 2026.
Do you think Joe Hendry vs. The Miz sounds like a good idea for next week on SmackDown? Let me know in the comments below, Cagesiders.
