Kentucky Basketball is expected to show interest in BYU transfer guard Rob Wright, who entered the transfer portal on Wednesday, according to Jack Pilgrim of KSR.
Wright is no stranger to Kentucky’s radar. The Wildcats previously showed interest in the guard last offseason before he ultimately transferred from Baylor to BYU following his freshman year. Now back in the portal, Kentucky appears ready to revisit that recruitment.
The 6-foot-1 guard is coming off a strong season at BYU, averaging 18.1
points, 4.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game across 35 contests while playing 34.8 minutes per game. He shot an efficient 46.7% from the field on 13.9 attempts and knocked down 41% from three-point range on four attempts per game, showcasing his ability as a high-level scorer.
Wright thrived offensively, especially as his role expanded late in the season. With Richie Saunders suffering a torn ACL, AJ Dybantsa stepped into the top scoring role, while Wright elevated into a primary option, becoming a consistent offensive threat.
While his offensive production stands out, Wright will need to improve in key areas, including limiting turnovers after averaging 2.2 per game and developing more consistency defensively, particularly if he transitions to SEC play.
After Saunders’ injury, many did not believe BYU would make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament as they finished the season at 23-12 and fell in the first round of the NCAA Tournament as a No. 6 to No. 11 Texas.
Wright is currently ranked No. 11 overall in the transfer portal by On3.
