In a statement posted on X/Twitter today (Nov. 4), Taya Valkyrie announced that she’s leaving AEW as her initial contract expired and she declined an extension.
FROM THE TAYA VALKRIE TEAM, LOS ANGELES, CA- Taya Valkyrie enters Free Agency after AEW exit. After much consideration and thorough discussions with her team Valkyrie has officially entered free agency having elected not to accept an offer to extend her contract with All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
“I am incredibly grateful for my time with AEW
and the opportunity to be part of the organization. While there, I wrestled and worked alongside exceptional talent, and built lasting relationships within the AEW family and deepend my relationships in the wrestling community. I am beyond thankful to the fans for their continued support of me, not only in my time with AEW but also as I step into this new chapter as a free agent. I can’t wait for what’s to come and have a lot more to leave in the ring. With my contract now concluded, I’m excited to explore new opportunities and possibilities as a wrestler, TV personality, and creative.”
Valkyrie’s decision to enter free agency comes at a very exciting time in her career having been a Traitor on Traitors Canada this fall and following the release of her debut music EP, FAKE.
Valkyrie, 43, has had lengthy runs with both TNA/Impact, where she’s a former Knockouts champion, and AAA, where she twice won the Reina de Reinas belt, and was a member of the original Perros del Mal — a group WWE just resurrected after purchasing AAA. She was briefly with WWE at the start of the decade, working in NXT as Franky Money. Valkyrie’s also worked for Lucha Underground, MLW, the NWA, and others. She’s also married to John Morrison, who’s still with AEW (as far as we know, he did just wrestle for ROH at their taping this week).
Taya’s three years with AEW weren’t terribly eventful. Her last match for that company was last fall on Collision. She hasn’t wrestled for Ring of Honor since January.
Now we’ll see what’s next for La Wera Loca.
