The Rangers did not start off last week the way they needed to going into a week where they were playing two teams ahead of them in the wild card race. Which after their 10-4 win in Toronto that Sunday, I was afraid to be hopeful that was a turn around. Too many times this season especially, the Rangers have had really good wins that feel like a turning point, only to go to the next series and look weak.
Which is exactly what they did in Kansas.
I was hoping for a 5-2 week but after the first two losses
to the Royals, I was only just hoping for at least two wins total.
I fully didn’t expect them to sweep Cleveland, in a dominant way, and get back to .500.
For some reason when it comes to the Texas Rangers baseball team, unless its the 2014, 2021, or 2022 season, I can be pretty optimistic about them. Especially as a pretty skeptical person in general. And it does feel a little ridiculous to be hopeful still of this team since they seem to be doing their best to hurt us as a whole.
There is just something about this team that makes me want to believe they can still get it together in time to sneak in as a wild card. Maybe it’s because on paper, like we’ve all said since spring training, this steam should be a dangerous offensive team. We see sparks here and there but nothing consistent.
Maybe it’s because it’s Bruce Bochy’s last season (there’s no way he comes back right? That man probably regrest not getting out one and done after 2023.) and I would love to see the Rangers at leas go to playoffs two out of his three seasons.
Maybe it’s because while they aren’t near their 2023 record at this point in the season ( 75-57) they are doing better than their 2024 record (62-71).
However, it is unfortunate that they go on to play the Los Angeles Angels and then Athletics, they are 5-5 against both teams this year although it feels like both teams really have the Rangers number.
Long story short, I feel both optimistic and skeptical at the same time in equal parts. This season feels like one big shrug emoji.
