It’s a done deal! Kevin Danso has moved on from Tottenham Hotspur to Sunderland, and Spurs wasted no time in signing his replacement, picking up defender Tosin Adarabioyo for a mere £7m transfer fee from Chelsea.
I’d love to tell you that I feel fantastic about this deal. I don’t, exactly, but the £7m price tag sure makes me feel a bit better. Adarabioyo is considered a cromulent defender
and also one that is comfortable in possession and playing out of the back, which makes him at least on paper a good fit for Roberto De Zerbi’s side. He’s the first Chelsea player to join Spurs directly since (I believe) Carlo Cudicini and William Gallas back in 2009/2010 respectively.
Now, there’s every chance that Tosin could end up being a sneaky good cheap signing for Spurs, as they’re looking not for a regular startup but a Guy™ who can come in and do a job. I sure hope that’s the case here. Spurs were linked to him before he moved to Chelsea initially, though I’m not sure there’s a ton of institutional memory from those days at the club right now.
Either way he probably shoudn’t expect major minutes, but he’ll get more than he will stuck in BlueCo hell over in south London. It’s a good move for him, and it just might end up being an okay to good move for us too. Hopefully. Maybe. We’ll see.
