It didn’t take too long for the Alabama wide receiver to hear his name called in the NFL draft. After starting his career at Michigan State, Bernard transferred to Washington to play with Coach DeBoer, then followed him to Alabama. Bernard was the Tide’s top receiving target in 2024 and 2025, emerging as a reliable target for both Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson.
Bernard had a jaw-droppingly good 2.5% drop rate over his career, with it falling to 1.5% in his senior season. Even more impressive (maybe?)
than his outstanding hands and general ability to be open, Bernard was also a force in the open field, forcing 37 missed tackles the last two seasons at Alabama. In fact, it even got the point where Alabama was lining him up at running back at times when they most needed a successful running play, as Bernard wound up with better rushing success than all of the Tide’s running backs.
He played about 50% in the slot and 50% out wide, so he’s got excellent versatility, too.
Essentially, Bernard just does most everything really well.
The Steelers are armed with some big outside receiving targets, but nothing really in that role for a chain-mover and tackle-breaker, so Germie Bernard fits that to a T. He’ll get to spend a season with Aaron Rodgers, too, so he should pick up all kinds of tips and tricks.
Best of luck to Germie at the next level, and Roll Tide!
