Newcastle United will begin the 2026-27 Premier League season at home to Liverpool on Aug. 23 before making their first away trip of the campaign to Tottenham Hotspur six days later.
The full fixture list was released by the Premier League on Friday, with Eddie Howe’s side handed a tough opening stretch after finishing 12th in the 2025-26 campaign.
The Magpies, unbeaten in their last four opening day fixtures, will welcome Liverpool to
St James’ Park on Sunday, August 23, at 11:30 p.m. ET.
Newcastle will then travel to London to pay a visit to Tottenham on Saturday, August 29, in a game that could see Sandro Tonali play against his former club if he ends up going to the Spurs, as widely rumored.
The Magpies’ opening run also includes home matches against Bournemouth and newly promoted Hull City, plus an away trip to Leeds United—the likely new home of Nick Pope—before the October international break brings the first pause to the season.
October will bring Newcastle’s first Premier League visit to the Coventry Building Society Arena, where they will face newly promoted Coventry City on October 10.
Key among the fixture reveal is the Tyne-Wear derby, with Sunderland visiting St James’ Park on Saturday, December 5. The return fixture at the Stadium of Light is scheduled for Saturday, May 1.
Newcastle failed to win either derby last season, while Sunderland finished ahead of Howe’s side in the European places.
The winter schedule includes a busy stretch around Christmas and New Year. Newcastle will host Manchester City on Boxing Day, welcome Nottingham Forest four days later, then start 2027 away to Chelsea on January 2.
Four days after that trip to Stamford Bridge, Newcastle will face Manchester United at Old Trafford. Their Emirates FA Cup campaign will begin over the third round weekend of January 9.
United will travel to reigning Premier League champions Arsenal on January 23 before later facing Chelsea, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest during a difficult February and early March run.
Three of Newcastle’s final five fixtures will be away from home. After the derby at Sunderland on May 1, they will host Coventry City, visit Aston Villa, host Crystal Palace, and finish the season away to Hull City on Sunday, May 30.
All fixtures remain subject to change for television broadcast purposes.
