Away games are different. Night away games, even more so. Kickoff at 7:30 means we have the whole day to attend to other things, which in my case tends to be housework and/or schoolwork (for at least the next 4 weeks). Thankfully, while there is schoolwork to do (readings and working on the last two assignments), nothing is due until Thanksgiving Break begins, so I actually spent a fair amount of yesterday trying to get my house into some semblance of order.
Mr. Squillian and I went to the high school
for their “Festival”. We walked around, found a couple of Christmas gifts, and generally showed the flag, and still had plenty of time to work on the aforementioned housework.
But it was not without a healthy measure of trepidation when we sat down to watch the game. Vegas gave us the (slight) edge, but we all know that anything less than 7 points is basically a toss-up. The announcers made a meal about how no Kirby Smart-led team had ever won in Oxford. As any decent statistician will tell you, a sample size of 2 is insignificant. I was happy we jumped to an early 14-0 lead, but it really wasn’t until we went into the half up 28-0 that I started to feel some measure of confidence. Watching our defense systematically shut down the Land Sharks? Rebels? How is it that all the teams we play against have multiple mascots/identities?
However, it is our intention to celebrate Georgia Bulldog Football Wins whenever and wherever they occur. The ugliness or beauty of any particular win is irrelevant for the purposes of the Winning Smart Victory Post. It is therefore my deepest honor and privilege to bring to you this week’s edition of: The Winning Smart Victory Post.
Coach Kirby Smart coached his 147th game this week for the Red & Black. He currently boasts a 125-22 record and a 0.8503 winning percentage, having carded his one hundred twenty-fifth win overall against the Ole Miss Rebels in the ninth game of the 2026 season.
At the identical juncture in their careers:
Vince Dooley’s 147th game as head coach resulted in a Georgia Bulldogs win over the Mighty Ducks of Oregon in the first game of the 1977 season, giving Coach Dooley a record of 99-43-5 and a 0.6905 percentage.
Coach Mark Richt was 109-38 (0.7415) after a win over Florida Atlantic in the 3rd game of the 2012 season.
One hundred and forty seven games into his head coaching career Kirby Smart is sixteen games ahead of Coach Mark Richt and ahead of Coach Vince Dooley by 26 games. As of now, he is holding his own versus the two winningest coaches in Georgia Football History.
As always . . .
Go ‘Dawgs !!!!
