The Minnesota Lynx have had an extended break since their most recent game, a loss to the second place Golden State Valkyries. Though that result keeps Golden State mathematically alive to challenge Minnesota for the number one seed, the Lynx still remain in the driver’s seat with just five games left on their docket. Two more wins would lock in their top position.
There is a clear plateau on the opposite side of the playoff bracket. The Washington Mystics, Dallas Wings, and New York Liberty are still
separated by just a single game, meaning Minnesota could draw any one of them. We posed the question to Canis Hoopus about who they hope the Lynx get in the first round. Here were the results.
It’s no surprise, the Wings were the choice. They’re the only team of the three options that the Lynx haven’t lost to this season. They’ve won in mostly blowout fashion, and now Dallas is now without their number one overall draft pick, Azzi Fudd, due to a season-ending leg injury. They’re currently sitting at number seven and have won three straight, but are still just 5-5 in their last 10 games.
If the postseason started today, Minnesota would matchup against their old foes, the New York Liberty. The Lynx have split the season series 1-1 thus far, and have one more regular season match against them three weeks from now. New York has been sputtering as of late, losing two of their last three including an upset loss to the bottom-feeding Chicago Sky. The Liberty also have their own injury issues. Their new All-WNBA acquisition, Satou Sabally, is still out indefinitely due to a scary lingering head injury that she’s been dealing with since the 2025 playoffs. She hasn’t played in a game in over two months.
The Lynx have one more game before the FIBA World Cup tournament. They’re flying out to Atlanta to face off against the Dream. Most notably, they just signed future Hall of Famer, DeWanna Bonner, who just requested a buyout from the Phoenix Mercury to pursue one last chance at a ring. She could possibly make her debut on Sunday. The Dream just lost by double-digits to the non-playoff bound Portland Fire on Friday.
For Minnesota, they will hopefully get Courtney Williams back, who just missed her first ever game in a Lynx uniform due to an ankle injury. She was a part of practice and Cheryl Reeve was hopeful that Williams could be ready to go. Both Dorka Juhász and Antonia Delaere will be unavailable, as they currently have their contracts temporarily suspended due to national team obligations with the World Cup looming.
