Michael Olise has seen his career and profile in the footballing world take off since arriving at Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024 — the same year current head coach Vincent Kompany took charge at Säbener Straße.
But Kompany isn’t about to take credit for Olise’s prolific form. Asked by Sky Germany’s Torben Hoffmann, the Bayern coach merely expressed his gratitude for having a player of Olise’s caliber.
“I think a player with talent like Michael Olise will always make it. He will always be one of
the best players,” Kompany said in comments captured by @iMiaSanMia. “It’s not just his talent, but also his mentality and his eye for detail. He always seems to have the vision to see something that others might not see, and that’s true even in training. And that’s why this boy has already become a truly special player in world football.”
Kompany also affirmed that he considers the Frenchman world-class “without a doubt”, and commented more generally on how he as a coach handles players who are already in their early years hitting such pinnacles.
“The most important thing for a coach in a situation with players like this, and I say this not only from my experience as a coach, but also from my experience as a teammate of players like that, is that the hunger remains,” Kompany added. “And even when the guys come into an environment where that praise is no longer constantly there.
“With us, you get praise for what you deliver and how you work in training, for what you do and produce in a game. And if that is no longer there in a game, then we immediately have that discussion about how we can continue to take the next steps. That’s the role we play. But it’s not about us turning a player into a world-class player. That’s impossible. He already has that within himself.”
