With week one of the NFL season in the books, and the second week kicking off Thursday night, let’s be kind and rewind the tape to see how former Iowa State football players did in the opening week of the 2026 season.
Breece Hall – New York Jets
In a 23-10 win against the Tennessee Titans, Hall started. He recorded 22 carries for 102 yards (as a team, the Titans had 68 yards) and a touchdown. Hall also hauled in two passes for 18 yards. Snap counts are unofficial, but he played 39 offensive snaps and one special teams snap.
Jake Hummel – Houston Texans
In a 36-31 loss to the Buffalo Bills, Hummel recorded 17 special teams snaps. He left the game due to an injury in the third quarter. Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports Hummel (groin) is considered week-to-week.
Xavier Hutchinson – Houston Texans
In a 36-31 loss to the Bills, Hutchinson recorded three receptions for 32 yards. He appeared on the field for 44 offensive snaps.
Charlie Kolar – Los Angeles Chargers
In a 26-14 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, Kolar started. He recorded no receptions. Kolar played 30 offensive snaps and 13 on special teams.
Will McDonald IV – New York Jets

In a 23-10 win against the Titans, McDonald did not play. He sacked Cam Ward in the fourth quarter for a loss of 11 yards. McDonald played 25 defensive snaps and eight on special teams.
David Montgomery – Houston Texans
In a 36-31 loss to the Bills, Montgomery started and recorded three touchdowns, two rushing and one receiving. He tallied 60 yards rushing on 20 carries and three receptions for 19 yards. Montgomery recorded 39 offensive snaps.
Jaylin Noel – Houston Texans

In a 36-31 loss to Buffalo, Noel did not start. He tallied two receptions for 53 yards, fair caught a punt and returned three kickoffs for 70 yards. Noel recorded 24 offensive snaps and six on special teams.
Domonique Orange – Minnesota Vikings
In a 39-22 win against the Green Bay, “Big Citrus” did not start, but recorded two tackles including a tackle for loss in which the Packers fumbled on the next play. He played 22 defensive snaps and seven on special teams.
Darien Porter – Las Vegas Raiders

In an 27-13 win against Miami Dolphins, Darien Porter started, assisted on two tackles, defended two passes and played 46 defensive snaps and eight on special teams.
Brock Purdy – San Francisco 49ers
In an 27-7 win against the Los Angeles Rams down in Melbourne, Australia, Purdy went 25-of-34 through the air for 205 yards and three touchdowns. He also had five carries for 29 yards.
TJ Tampa – Baltimore Ravens
In a 41-23 win against the Indianapolis Colts, Tampa did not start for the Ravens. He played five special teams snaps. In the first half, he received a knee injury which kept him out for the remainder of the contest.
Jalen Travis – Indianapolis Colts

In a 41-23 loss to the Ravens, Travis started at right tackle and played all 54 offensive snaps and four special teams snaps.
Eyioma Uwazurike – Denver Broncos
In a 31-10 loss against the Chiefs, Uwazurike did not start. He recorded three tackles and played 41 defensive snaps as well as five special teams snaps.
