The Miami Hurricanes beat the NC State Wolfpack today in Hard Rock Stadium, 41-7. Miami quarterback Carson Beck went 21-27 for 291 yards with three touchdowns and zero turnovers. Girard Pringle led the Canes
in rushing with 116 yards on 17 carries. Superstar freshman wide receiver Malachi Toney had five receptions for 54 yards and two touchdowns. NC State quarterback CJ Bailey went 17-30 for 120 yards with two interceptions. Bailey was the Wolfpack’s leading rusher with 17 yards and a late-game touchdown run.
It was a great first half for the home team. Miami started the game by forcing a punt. Their first offensive drive resulted in a 31-yard field goal by Carter Davis. After trading punts, Miami safety Jakobe Thomas intercepted a telegraphed pass from NC State quarterback CJ Bailey and returned it for a 55-yard touchdown. Thomas picked up his second interception later in the first quarter on a rushed throw by Bailey.
The Canes scored another 14 points in the second quarter. To set up their first touchdown of the period, Miami wide receiver Malachi Toney completed a 44-yard pass to fellow wideout Jojo Trader. Running back CharMar Brown finished off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run. After forcing the Wolfpack into their fifth punt of the first half, Miami’s offense went to work. Brown had four rushes for 23 yards on the drive, Keelan Marion had three receptions for 29 yards, and Toney caught a beautiful 14-yard touchdown pass from Beck to put Miami up 24-0 at halftime.
Miami opened the second half with an eight-play, 85-yard scoring drive with tight end Elijah Lofton catching his first touchdown of the season. It was a perfect 29-yard touch pass from Beck. The Canes extended their lead to 34-0 after a 38-yard field goal, Davis’ second of the game. Meanwhile, NC State did not run a play in Miami territory through three quarters.
Beck and Toney connected again in the fourth quarter, this time for a 15-yard touchdown pass. NC State avoided a shutout by scoring on a 10-yard scramble by CJ Bailey. Miami finished with 581 yards of total offense, including 367 passing yards. NC State only had 149 total yards, including a mere 29 rushing yards.
Miami travels to Blacksburg to take on Virginia Tech next Saturday, kickoff time TBD. NC State hosts Florida State on Friday night, 11/21 at 8:00 PM EST on ESPN.
