The Eagles have finalized their initial 53-man roster and are now working on filling the ir 6-man practice squad, but there are still rumblings about the potential reunion between the team and veteran tight end Zach Ertz.
EJ Smith from PHLY Eagles recently reported that a return for the tight end isn’t out of the question.
“Zach Ertz has a chance to fill the Eagles’ void at tight end with a potential return on the table, according to league sources. Nothing is imminent as the 35-year-old is nearing
the nine-month mark of recovery from a scary knee injury suffered on Dec. 7, but Ertz would welcome a return to the Eagles for his 14th season.”
At the roster cut deadline, Philadelphia kept four tight ends — Dallas Goedert, Johnny Mundt, Eli Stowers, and E.J. Jenkins. Grant Calcaterra was placed on IR and he will miss at least the first four games of the season, but was one of the team’s two players designated to return.
But that position room doesn’t feel complete. Rookie Eli Stowers struggled on the field during training camp and is now dealing with a hamstring injury, and E.J. Jenkins had a good summer but was still considered a bubble player. Calcaterra has been dealing with injuries, and even though he’s had some big moments, he’s not a better option than Zach Ertz.
Ertz has shown Philly nothing but love since he was traded away years ago, and never ruled out coming back. The TE did have a little dust-up with head coach Nick Sirianni afterone of the Eagles-Commanders matchups, but neither seemed to harbor any ill-will about it afterward.
Plus, he continues to celebrate his time with the Eagles, and one of the most special memories for him and the City of Philadelphia.
