Jack Mahoney (HM PuRP) was drafted in the third round of the 2023 MLB Draft. He’s worked his way up through the system, spending all of 2025 with the Double-A Hartford Yard Goats. In 24 starts with the Yard Goats,
the right-hander posted a 3-10 record and 5.93 ERA and 1.67 WHIP.
However, despite some of the results, Mahoney said the highlight of his 2025 season in Hartford was “probably just getting to compete at the level I did.”
“The results weren’t exactly what I was looking for,” he continued, “but the experience of it and pitching at that level and really seeing guys with an approach versus your stuff was pretty important for me to see just to kinda make the adjustments I’m going to need to keep making. But it was super enjoyable, and I’ve been enjoying out here [in Arizona], too. It’s been fun.”
Mahoney was selected to the Arizona Fall League with specific goals in mind: “enhance what I’ve been working on through the year.”
“It’s cool,” he said of his selection. “You see all the names out here that you get to compete and pitch against, and then you get to watch some guys who can really throw it.”
But Mahoney spent his time working on pitching adjustments because “sometimes making adjustments to your arsenal during the year is tough to do because you’re going a million miles an hour.
“I’ve been working on my stuff, and it’s been awesome being able to hear voices from maybe outside your organization or just different players and see how they go about their business and see if you like it or not.
“One of the main things that I’m down here doing and got sent here to do is work on offspeed and execution,” he continued. “So I think being able to watch some guys who are pretty good and have a really good handle on their offspeed stuff, and taking cues from them and just talking pitching has been really enjoyable.”
And his biggest takeaway is “just learning how to pitch.”
“I’ve always done a good job of going out there and competing and throwing my stuff,” he continued, “but you’re getting to the level and facing guys where they really have an approach and they’re not really coming out of the strike zone. So kinda just mixing and matching and learning what works and really what doesn’t. It’s been a fun process of learning and all that.
“It’s always not that easy, but it’s fun to learn.”
Like his fellow Rockies prospects, Mahoney also noted the importance of playing in a league like the Arizona Fall League.
“It’s huge,” he said. “I think it’s fun. You see the different personalities. A lot of these guys, you compete against them so you never really get to know any of them and then all of a sudden you’re in the same locker room for six weeks and you’re facing the same guys week in and week out. So I think that’s been pretty unique about the Fall League and it’s been a blast. I’ve really enjoyed working with these guys and taking stuff from them and maybe applying some of it to my own game.”
And looking ahead to 2026? Mahoney’s main goal is to get stronger and continue polishing what he’s working on.
“[I want to get] to a better spot where I’m even more confident in throwing whatever I want in whatever counts,” he said. “That’s been a big thing of learning this year, and facing these guys, especially with the ABS and that strike zone you’re throwing into. These guys are really good and they’re not really taking swings out of the strike zone, so you have to find what works for you in the zone and what works off of each other.”
In total, Mahoney made five appearances (three starts) for the Salt River Rafters in 2025. He posted an 0-1 record and a 5.74 ERA over 15.2 innings, and allowed seven walks with 10 strikeouts. He was tapped to start the Rafters’ playoff game, where he pitched four shutout innings while allowing just two hits with one walk and one strikeout. The Rafters lost to the Mesa Solar Sox 3-0 in the final game, finishing sixth with an 11-17 record.

After months of in-fighting, ESPN and MLB finally worked out their differences. NBC and Netflix also got in on the deal, and all three will air various games throughout the year.
Specifically, NBC/Peacock will take over Sunday Night Baseball from AppleTV+ as well as the Wild Card Series, and Netflix will house the Home Run Derby and two other games. ESPN will take over the in-market streaming rights for the six teams whose games are produced by MLB: Padres, Rockies, Diamondbacks, Guardians, Twins and Mariners.
