The Wolverines lost a piece to their 2027 recruiting class, as three-star offensive lineman Sidney Rouleau announced his decommitment from Michigan Football on Tuesday.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder from Canada originally committed to the Wolverines back in March, but he took a visit to Syracuse during Halloween weekend for the Orange’s upset win over SMU. Syracuse has
been making a “strong push to flip him,” according to Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider ($), so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him wind up playing his college football in the ACC.
Additionally, Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong ($) reported earlier today that Michigan is “moving on” from Rouleau. This makes sense, considering offensive line coach Jim Harding has offered other interior offensive linemen this fall. Two of them — former NC State commit Conner Rutherford and current Stanford commit and in-state prospect Braden Chaffin — are actually set to visit Ann Arbor this weekend for the rivalry matchup against MSU.
But losing a longtime member of your recruiting class is never something to be happy about, no matter if they wanted to go somewhere else or if the program itself decided to not honor his commitment anymore. Rouleau was offered by the coaching staff for a reason, so it’s interesting the Wolverines are moving on from him so close to the beginning of the early signing period. Whatever the exact reasons may be, we certainly wish him all the best wherever he ends up at.
The Wolverines now have three offensive linemen — Jakari Lipsey, Lincoln Mageo and Louis Esposito — and 21 total committed prospects in their 2027 class.
