The turnover on the Cleveland Browns roster has been immense over the last two seasons, leaving a very young roster with very few veterans 30 years or older. Besides the trade of DE Myles Garrett and LB Devin Bush leaving in free agency, the Browns defense has stayed mostly the same this offseason. It is on the offensive side of the ball where things are very different from last year.
The offensive line, including the tackle position with all its options, has seen the most changes, but the QB competition
also has new weapons to work with. Cleveland drafted WR KC Concepcion in the first round and followed that up with WR Denzel Boston to try to help the top of the wide receiver room. NFL free agency and the NFL draft added a couple to the tight end room.
At running back, the return of QB Quinshon Judkins after last year’s injury is the biggest storyline for a young group of players.
Despite all that young talent, ESPN’s ranking of teams’ weapons has the Browns ranked near the bottom:
30. Cleveland Browns
2025 rank: 29 | 2024 rank: 20
The author, Bill Barnwell, did note the “young options have more significant pedigrees” and sees the possibility of Cleveland moving up in the rankings next year:
The only thing close to a reliable option here, though, might be tight end Harold Fannin Jr., who was ninth in yards per route run among tight ends last season, just ahead of Kyle Pitts Sr. and fellow rookie Tyler Warren. Veteran Jerry Jeudy followed up a solid debut season by going missing for most of his second year in Cleveland, and drops remain a vexing problem for him. If Fannin sticks in the top 10 in YPRR and one of the young wideouts breaks through into an above-average NFL starter, the Browns will climb up the ranks next season.
An interesting note, among the teams at the bottom of the list are a bunch of bad teams last year, and the Buffalo Bills. While it is very helpful to have a good group of weapons, the Bills are proof that a great quarterback can really raise the tide by himself.
What do you think of where the Browns roster of weapons is ranked? Is it fair based on the past, or should it be higher due to the upside?
