UEFA have appointed Italian referee Maurizio Mariani as the man in charge of Wednesday’s match between Real Madrid and Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League’s Round of 16.
Per Realmadrid.com Maurizio Mariani will referee the match between Real Madrid and Manchester City, corresponding to the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16, which will take place at the Bernabéu (Wednesday, 9:00 pm CEST; Orange TV and Movistar Liga de Campeones). The Italian referee will officiate a match involving
our team in the top European competition for the third time.
Matches officiated for Real Madrid in the Champions League:
– Real Madrid-Leipzig (2-0). Group stage 2022/23.
– Lille-Real Madrid (1-0). Group stage 2024/25.
Real Madrid are the underdogs in this tie, so imposing their will and playing with intensity and physicality will be required if they want to advance to the Quarterfinals. Mariani’s role in this first leg played at the Santiago Bernabeu will be an important one.
