The Seattle Seahawks had an open roster spot entering Saturday due to the release of running back Velus Jones Jr, who subsequently signed to the practice squad. Seattle opted to go into the defensive trenches to fill that vacant 53-man roster spot, signing rookie defensive tackle Deven Eastern.
With Leonard Williams and Brandon Pili both out with injury, Seattle’s defensive interior is significantly compromised. Eastern had an up-and-down and injured preseason, but at this stage the Seahawks need
any bodies to get through the next couple of games before their Week 11 bye.
Seattle also elevated swing tackle Bobby Hart and wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr from the practice squad for a second consecutive week. With Charles Cross and Rashid Shaheed both out, Hart and Foster get the call-ups again, leaving them each with one PS elevation left.
What is the most notable aspect of Saturday’s roster transactions is the fact that quarterback Adrian Martinez was not signed to the active roster as an emergency third-stringer. By NFL rule, only players on the active roster can be an emergency third QB, so Martinez would’ve needed to be signed to the 53 from the practice squad to be eligible. Instead, he’s not going to be available on Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals, so Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe are it for the Seahawks. If they both get hurt, your guess is as good as mine as to who the third QB is.
