When WWE does a mismatched pairing of wrestlers and gives them some success as a tag team, they either gel enough that they make a legit run with it — we are seeing this right now with Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss — or they drag it along to give it enough time to build to one of the two turning on the other to kick off a babyface run.
It is my sincere hope that they do not follow this template with The Miz and Carmelo Hayes.
They could, yes, and I’m sure it would be fine, but Hayes works better
as a heel and there’s no reason they can’t continue telling this story with Melo coming out of it an even better heel. Hayes obviously isn’t happy about how The Miz continues looking out for himself and trying to steal the glory, but instead of using that other turn him babyface, I think it would be far more interesting to have him learn from the wily veteran to make himself a better villain.
Wouldn’t that be a fun, unique way to handle a pairing like this? It explains why Hayes would defend The Miz to Fraxiom and forgive him so quickly his trespasses, like he did following their win on this show, where The Miz again got himself over using ‘Melo’s hard work. To my eyes, this is a better path to a meaningful push up the card for Hayes.
Am I crazy for thinking so?
