With week 2 of the 2025 NFL preseason in the books for every team across the league, we take a moment to reflect on our ‘Bears on the Bubble’ and make any adjustments after the Chicago Bears hosted the Buffalo Bills in week 2 of the preseason.
5. Travis Homer – RB
Homer sat out week two of the preseason against the Buffalo Bills along with starting RB D’Andre Swift and backups Roschon Johnson and Kyle Monangai. Though he was reported to have hurt his calf last week against the Dolphins, it is not expected
to be anything serious. That said, after Deion Hankins left the game early with what appeared to be a knee injury, reserves Ian Wheeler and Brittain Brown played well in extended action, each scoring at least one time and averaging over 4 yards per carry. As stated last week, Homer holds more special teams value than arguably any other RB on the roster, making his spot appear safe, but if the younger backs can step up in the 3rd phase, don’t be surprised if Homer is off the roster for week 1.

4. Dominique Robinson – DE
With fellow Defensive End Austin Booker continuing to impress as the 3rd DE on the roster, Dom Rob is battling with special teams ace Daniel Hardy and newcomer Tanoh Kpassagnon for the 4th and potentially 5th DE spot on the roster. Though neither made any noteworthy plays against the Bills Sunday night, both at least scratched the box score, which is more than Dom Rob can say before he left with an injury of his own. To his credit, I did see some solid push from him both against the run and pass, but he will need to finish strong this week in practice and Friday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.

3. Tyler Scott – WR
After a disappointing performance last week against the Dolphins, Tyler Scott bounced back against the Bills this week, finishing with 3 catches on 3 targets for 54 yards and a TD with an 18 yard per catch average. However, he is still squarely behind Luther Burden III for the 4th WR on the depth chart and has not yet stepped up in the 3rd phase to solidify a role. To make matters worse, he bobbled his only Kick Return and put the offense in a precarious position to start the game inside their own 10-yard line. If Scott can stack some more practices and ball out against the Chiefs Friday night, I think he has a great chance to stick. But if he looks like JAG (Just A Guy), then he’ll be a Practice Squad player at best.

2. Kiran Amegadjie – OT
Once in contention for the starting LT job this off-season, the 2nd year pro from Yale is now in serious danger of not making the roster at all. Amegadjie was with the 3rd team offensive line at RT Sunday Night, and though he did look decent against backups, the fact that rookie Ozzy Trapilo and 2nd year UDFA Theo Benedet are ahead of him on the depth chart does not bode well for his chances. Hopefully, Chicago can keep Kiran on the Practice Squad in 2025, but his chances of cracking the 53 do not appear to be good.

1. Zacch Pickens – DT
Up to the #1 spot after entering Sunday night’s exhibition as the 5th DT, even without 2nd round DT Shemar Turner in action, Pickens would need a borderline miracle to crack the 53 at this point. Though he had 3 tackles and a sack in week one of the preseason against the Dolphins, Pickens failed to crack the stat sheet against the Bills. There is simply too much depth and competition at this point for the former Gamecock, but with an exceptionally strong final week, anything is possible.

What about you? Who do you think has the hardest chance of sticking on the Bears’ final 53-man roster in 2025 after the game against the Bills? What are your thoughts on the ones listed above?
