In a grueling year, stacked with more and more fixtures every season, rest is vital for football teams. This is one advantage German teams have over English sides. While English teams endure their busiest
and most fixture condensed time of year, Bayern and the rest of the Bundesliga find themselves in the middle of their ‘Winterpause’. A key advantage that could provide Bayern the crucial injection of freshness going into the latter half of the season. Although, Bayern will need to earn their Winter break under Vincent Kompany.
The Belgian manager expressed his excitement for the upcoming Winter break, however, was sure to remind his players that there is still work to be done before the festivities.
“The family is definitely excited for there to be a break,” exclaimed the Belgian manager (via @iMiaSanMia). “It was different in England. We need to enjoy this as well. But there’s still a bit of time before then with a lot of work. The players need to find a balance. It’s a mix of form and freshness. But we’ve got a squad to be competitive in all competitions.”
On the flip-side, the break could also act as a double-edged sword, hindering a Bayern side that have been enjoying the form of their lives’. While a break will offer the German side a much needed respite as well as allowing key players returning from injury to reintegrate into the first team, it may also disrupt Bayern’s momentum.
Amongst family time, Kompany will have to figure out a plan to get his side back into shape and form with the minimal amount of time spent shaking the rust off.
