The Jets are searching for a long-term solution at quarterback. While it seems unlikely that they will select a signal caller second overall at this point, the team is doing its homework on quarterback prospects who could be available later on.
One of those prospects is Ty Simpson out of Alabama. Many analysts have Simpson rated as the second best quarterback in this year’s class behind Fernando Mendoza. A few national analysts have given Simpson effusive praise this week.
Simpson is set to work out
today for the Jets.
The Jets are have also scheduled a meeting with LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
While news like this always leads people to jump to conclusions, it’s important to remember these are steps in the evaluation process. The Jets haven’t decided they are taking Simpson or Nussmeier. Neither quarterback is off their board either. If a decision was made already, none of these get togethers would be necessary.
The Jets will take the information gained from these and add it proportionally to the other evaluation metrics they have on these guys.
We will find out in April how interested the Jets really are in Simpson or Nussmeier.
