The San Francisco 49ers placed running back Patrick Taylor Jr. on the Injured Reserve List. This will be the second season in a row for Taylor Jr., who seemed like he had the inside track on making the roster and contributing on special teams.
Taylor Jr. played 23 snaps last week, including one covering punts, one as a wide receiver, and another as a line tight end. The Niners likely valued his versatility.
The 49ers brought back running back Khalil Herbert on a one-year deal as the corresponding move.
Herbert should see plenty of work in Week 2. He’s coming off 31 snaps, with seven of those coming on special teams. He had six carries for 18 yards.
The 49ers won’t have Christian McCaffrey tonight, which means we’ll get our first look at Kaelon Black. So it’ll be Black, Sincere McCormick, Zamir White, and Herbert.
The 49ers are still without Jordan James (rib) and Isaac Guerendo (pec). What the team does with Guerendo once he’s healthy again will be interesting, as his roster spot isn’t a lock. However, injuries are opening the door for him.
