The Pittsburgh Steelers and Mike McCarthy have gone full speed ahead in building a coaching staff since he was introduced as the team’s new head coach on Tuesday afternoon.
Thus far, McCarthy has hired Patrick Graham as defensive coordinator, James Campen as his offensive line coach, and Adam Henry as wide receivers coach. Additionally, McCarthy is retaining Tom Arth as quarterbacks coach, Gerald Alexander as the secondary coach, Scott McCurley as linebackers coach. Now, McCarthy is adding another
name to his defensive staff
Washington Commanders defensive pass game coordinator is joining the Steelers’ staff in a “prominent defensive role,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports.
“Washington assistant Jason Simmons, who interviewed for the Steelers DC job, is expected to join the staff in a prominent defensive role, per sources. ”This would be a reunion for Simmons, Patrick Graham and Mike McCarthy from Green Bay.”
Simmons was on the Packers staff from 2011-19. He was then the defensive pass game coordinator and secondary coach for the Carolina Panthers from 2020-21. He served the same roles for the Las Vegas Raiders from 2022-23 before going to Washington in 2024.
