Since his at-the-time-shocking exit from AEW back in 2022, Cody Rhodes hasn’t said much about his years with Tony Khan & The Elite starting up the closest thing WWE’s had to a competitor in a long time. But what little he’s said has said a lot, if you know what we mean.
While admitting he’ll never root against the promotion he helped found in 2019, he’s also said the end of his time there was “terrible, really”. That was due to “a personal issue” that left him feeling “disrespected”, something he’s indicated
was between himself and AEW president Khan.
Cody said something else without technically saying anything during the newest edition of his What Do You Wanna Talk About? podcast. Guest Becky Lynch says she loved writing her book and asks if Rhodes will write one. He replies:
“I, uh, would love to… I’d love to write a book, but an entire huge chapter is locked behind a wall, and everything I say these days when it comes to that is somehow, I’m rewriting history, I’m remembering it wrong — even though the receipts are literally on social media. Stop.
”But every time I say anything, it’s the wrong thing to say. And it hurts — it like hurts my heart, because I’d love to tell the story, I just have to wait for somebody else to tell the story and hopefully they include me in it.
“But, you know, it’s a very odd situation. But I would love to write a book.”
He never says AEW, but it seems pretty clear that’s what he’s referring to.
AEW’s This Book Is All Elite: The Inside Story of All Elite Wrestling is coming this November. How will it handle the role WWE’s current QB1 played in that story? And will that unlock Cody’s ability to tell the tale?
We shall see.
