The college football season is over and with that comes the final poll rankings. In this new era of a 12 team playoff, the final rankings play second fiddle to the playoff field, but it’s still something important. Whether it’s a recruiting pitch or a state of the program or just a good old fashioned argument with Trent from accounting — the bulletpoint of top ten and top five finishes is a solid fact to have.
So for the 2025 college football season, Notre Dame finished #10 in the AP Top 25 and #11
in the Coaches Poll.
Notre Dame’s 2025 opponents in the AP Poll:
- Miami Hurricane #2
- Texas A&M Aggies #8
- USC Trojans #20
- Navy Midshipmen #23
- Boise State (votes)
Notre Dame dropped one spot in the AP Top 25 and two spots in the Coaches Poll. This was, undoubtedly, Notre Dame’s punishment for not playing in a bowl game at the end of the season. I may roll my eyes at the reason and roll them even more seeing any poll having Alabama and/or Oklahoma ranked ahead of the Irish — but this is what it is.
Notre Dame started the season ranked #6/#5 so if we take out the disappointments of the events over the last two months, it’s not the end of the world. Will it drown out the “Notre Dame is overrated every year!” crowd when the preseason rankimngs come out in August and the Irish are sitting there inside the top 5? No, but until they win a championship (and that probably won’t matter either) those people will continue to doubt the Irish.
