Roony Bardghji’s surprise exclusion from the Sweden squad for World Cup 2026 has been making waves, particularly back in his homeland.
Manager Graham Potter has said that it was “an incredibly tough decision” to leave Roony out but stopped short of explaining exactly why the Barcelona forward is not in his plans.
It’s now been claimed that Roony’s attitude may have been one of the determining factors, according to Aftonbladet.
The report highlights how Bardghji couldn’t hide his disappointment at not
playing in Sweden’s vital play-off qualifiers that secured their spot at the World Cup.
A national team source told the paper: “It was very strange that he was sitting there in a bad mood when we had just qualified for the World Cup. It was not at all favorable for him.”
Bardghji’s apparent sulking is said to have caught his team-mates by surprise and is one of the main reasons the players think he was dropped from the World Cup squad.
Roony has had something of a frustrating season at club level as well. He admitted earlier this season he wasn’t 100% happy with his game time and felt he deserved more minutes with Hansi Flick’s side.
The youngster is now set to meet with Flick at the end of the season. The Barca boss says he knows Roony wants more playing time and will speak with the player once the campaign is wrapped up.
