Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston is going into his fourth NFL season, where the hype may be higher than it has ever been before.
Johnston and the Chargers have been building momentum all offseason long as they learn from new offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who served as head coach of the Miami Dolphins for the last four seasons. Quarterback Justin Herbert is responding well to McDaniel’s system, which should allow Johnston and the other wide receivers to flourish.
“I’m glad
I got a quarterback that can get the ball out there like that. I always still go back at film and get amazed at some of the passes and how far he throws the ball. Fun to be a part of,” Johnston said via the team’s website.
“We got a supreme quarterback, supreme offensive coordinator and we got all the pieces that fit in and mesh well. I’m excited for us.”
During the team’s final preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams, Herbert found Johnston for a 65-yard touchdown. That served as a preview for what could be coming with the Chargers offense this season.
After scoring just three points in their wild card round game against the New England Patriots back in January, the Chargers knew they needed to make some changes when it came to the offense. By inserting McDaniel into the coaching staff, the Chargers were able to bring a new perspective that could result in more firepower for the unit.
It might take some time throughout the first part of the season, but if the Chargers’ offense can click quickly, they should have a chance to do better than they did last season.
