Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany does not think that his team’s scorching hot form means anything for Saturday’s Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund.
“Such games don’t just play on form. It’s
a game with its own narrative, own event. It feels like a derby even though there’s a big distance between both cities. It’s a classic. Emotions play a bigger role than in other games – and that’s what makes it special. Both games last year against Dortmund were good. We played well, but drew to them twice. As soon as you arrive in the stadium, you feel it’s a special game. At the end of the day, 3 points are important in every game – but even more important in such a game,” Kompany told Bundesliga.com (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Kompany wants to keep his squad focused and avoid a letdown. The coach is aware the group could easily rest on its laurels, but this group appears to be laser-focused on domination. Can the squad maintain that mentality for the long run of the season. We’ll get a sneak peek on Saturday….
