Here’s a slightly surprising stat. Harry Kane scored 36 goals for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga last season. Ever wondered where they came from? The natural conclusion would be Michael Olise, given that the Frenchman lead the league in assists. However the numbers reveal something different.
Both Luis Díaz and Joshua Kimmich beat the Frenchman in terms of linking up with Kane, providing the England captain 6 goals each. In fact, the next Bayern Munich player-combo to appear on the list is Olise
… to Díaz, providing 4 goals.
In case you don’t have Twitter or can’t see it, here is the full list:
The highest assist-to-goalscorer combinations in the Bundesliga last season:
1. Luis Díaz → Harry Kane – 6 goals
2. Joshua Kimmich → Harry Kane – 6 goals
3. Julian Ryerson → Serhou Guirassy – 5 goals
4. Andrej Ilić → Oliver Burke – 5 goals
5. Nathan Tella → Patrik Schick – 4 goals
6. Michael Olise → Luis Díaz – 4 goals
7. Jamie Leweling → Ermedin Demirović – 4 goals
8. Franck Honorat → Haris Tabaković – 4 goals
9. Jakub Kamiński → Ragnar Ache – 4 goals
10. David Raum → Christoph Baumgartner – 4 goals
The main takeaways here are:
- Luis Díaz is simply the perfect fit at FC Bayern. Not only does he link up well with Kane, he gets on the end of what Olise is providing. After initial skepticism about his signing, he has proven himself a key part of the team.
- Joshua Kimmich has no business being so high on this list. The rest of the providers are either forwards or fullbacks. Being a central midfielder and contributing so heavily to your striker’s output proves how much of a creative engine he can be.
- Michael Olise almost broke Thomas Müller’s Bundesliga assist record while barely linking up directly with Kane. Meanwhile Müller assisted Lewandowski so often fans had a nickname for it (Müllendowski). It shows that there’s potential for BOTH Kane and Olise to get more goals in the future, if they manage to link up some more.
