A can of worms was opened when MLW booked Tessa Blanchard from CMLL, and it seemed like trouble was brewing in that interpromotional strategic alliance. It was never clear publicly what the issue was. Now, it seems that whatever happened behind the scenes to ruffle feathers has been smoothed over.
MLW and CMLL often exchange talent in this partnership. MLW benefits more when showcasing star luchadores, such as Mistico, to sell tickets in markets that are eager for lucha libre. The alliance has been
smooth sailing for a few years. Things appeared to get rocky for a minute when MLW secured the services of Blanchard. CMLL released a statement saying Blanchard was only booked for one date. Those plans ended up being canceled, and Blanchard did not appear in MLW. The next odd step was luchadores being deleted off the MLW website. Curiosity brewed from fans wondering what the heck was going on.
Just as quickly as that kerfuffle occurred, things were getting back in place to calm any issues. CMLL aired a respectful video of MLW owner Court Bauer congratulating the company on its 93rd Anniversary event.
Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer chimed in about the MLW website.
I don’t know what the situation is with MLW and CMLL but earlier today all the CMLL talent except Templario was removed from the MLW roster page. Those at MLW said it was a glitch and lots of talent was removed that have been put back on since, and Mistico is back on the roster page. We are told the relationship is still on between the groups even with the obvious issue involved regarding Tessa Blanchard, which was not her fault, but was an issue with CMLL and MLW.
The next piece of the puzzle slid into place Wednesday night on CMLL Informa. CMLL announced two pieces of news that shows the alliance with MLW is still gung-ho. First, Mistico, Black Tiger, and Okumura will be heading to MLW’s taping on October 3.
Second, CMLL announced a few wrestlers for the Women’s International Grand Prix on October 23. Shotzi Blackheart and Lady Frost will represent MLW. AZM and Miyu Amasaki will represent Stardom. Emersyn Jayne will represent RevPro.
That’s how the wind is blowing now between MLW and CMLL.
