It was just last Monday that Atlanta Braves’ Spencer Strider took the mound against the Chicago Cubs (5 IP/ 5 H/ 3 ER/ 3 BB/ 1 K), putting up a strong performance, but it led to a loss in extra innings.
Although Strider felt his slider still wasn’t his best, and that the Cubs’ offense was timing when to swing on them, his trajectory is looking slightly promising compared to his disappointing stint in August, when he held a 10.13 ERA.
Also, noting that there was a last-minute change to scratch Strider
on this past Sunday’s (September 7th) matchup against the Miami Marlins, placing Joey Wentz in his place.
As reported by MLB Braves’ insider Mark Bowman, it wasn’t an injury-related pull, and most likely had more to do with starting Wentz and Bryce Elder on regular rest.
Now rested and geared to start tomorrow, Strider is looking to make the necessary adjustments to continue this series win into game two.
And for their opponent?
Cade Hornton is the pitcher facing the Braves tonight, boasting a 2.78 ERA. Also, freshly matchup his opposing team as he faced the team last Wednesday (September 3rd), but gained a loss (5-1) despite a strong five-inning no-hitter he accomplished.
He’s looking to do it again with a different outcome this go ‘round.
Both pitchers have a redemption game to play tonight.
The question is… who will succeed with it?
First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. EDT
